Teen Pregnancy Prevention

Fifteen pregnancy prevention

The most important reason to educate yourself about teen pregnancy is to be able to devise methods on preventing it. The primary reason that teenage girls who have never had intercourse give for abstaining from sex is that having sex would be against their religious or moral values. Other reasons cited include desire to avoid pregnancy, fear of contracting a sexually transmitted disease (STD), and not having met the appropriate partner. Three of four girls and over half of boys report that girls who have sex do so because their boyfriends want them to. Teenagers who have strong emotional attachments to their parents are much less likely to become sexually active at an early age. Here are some important tips to follow in order to help prevent your teen from becoming pregnant.

1.

Supervise and monitor your children and adolescents.

2.

Help them make a plan to get out of situations before they are in them.
3.
Be clear about your own sexual values and attitudes.
4.
Take a strong stand against your daughter dating a boy significantly older than she is.
5.
Know what your kids are watching, reading, and listening to.
6.
Tell them they have the capability to be whatever they want to be... the sky is the limit!
7.
Whether they're having sex or not, they need to be prepared, they need to know how to avoid pregnancy.
8.
Know your children's friends and their families.
9.
Let your kids know that you value education highly.
10.
Express love and affection clearly and often.
11.
Listen carefully to what your children say and pay thoughtful attention to what they do.
12.
Spend time with your children engaged in activities that suit their ages and interests, not just yours.
13.
Be supportive and be interested in what interests them.
14
Be courteous and respectful to your children and avoid hurtful teasing or ridicule.
15.
Help them to build self-esteem by mastering skills; remember, self-esteem is earned, not given, and one of the best ways to earn it is by doing something well.
